Musical Tidbits

Composition is often taught, in part, through musical analysis. This approach usually involves sifting through pages upon pages of text in order to arrive at a rather simple conclusion and does not place enough emphasis on the practical side of things (i.e. writing music!). "Musical Tidbits" offers an alternative to this tradition. Rather than confronting the student with an intimidating pile of books, I have designed a series of short instructional videos on some of the basic principles of compositional craft. Each video addresses one principle issue, which is illustrated using an example from the standard repertoire. A series of exercises accompanies each video so that the student can successfully integrate the lesson into their musical toolbox. Once completed, these may be sent to me at a.schartmann@gmail.com for feedback. Thanks for visiting and enjoy!
