Rémy Bélanger de Beauport - Les Ailes de la Perruche (2006)

Rémy Bélanger de Beauport is an active Québécois composer and performer. Residing in Montreal, Bélanger makes frequent appearances as part of Duo Bélanger: "a telepathic improvisation duo for amplified cello and dance". Of this work he wrote, "Les ailes de la perruche was composed for Andrew Schartmann, who had asked for a piano piece to play as an encore. It started out as a much longer piece, Perruche, of which the body was cut out and the opening and closing sections reworked. Looking at the whole work from a static point of view, one could say only the wings were kept, hence the title. It is meant to be ecstatic and unpredictable, borrowing the aesthetics of both the budgie itself and the typical encore piano piece. I believe the performance here brings forth this very interpretation." The work was premiered at McGill University in 2006.
