Alan Belkin - Cello Sonata (1994)

Alan Belkin is the composer of eight symphonies, two concerti, and several chamber works. He resides in Montreal and teaches composition at the Université de Montréal. Of this work he wrote, "My cello sonata was written in 1994. Some of the musical ideas were originally destined for a ballet commission, which in the end did not materialize; I think, however, that a certain sense of physical gesture remains in the piece." The recording posted here appears on a CD of chamber music by composers Alan Belkin, Michel Edward, and Philippe Lévesque (image to the left).
